WORDS FOR LIVING

Life on earth is only a passage towards a destination most of us still doubt actually exist. This piece does not focus on the destination details rather the real ingredients for purposeful living and inter-human relationships here on earth.

Yes, life throws its own challenges and is filled with complexities we try to unravel. Let the web-intertwining nature of life be left alone and do focus on its simplicities. Power words I call them – PLEASE, SORRY and THANK YOU.
PLEASE – “Please, shut your mouth!” This is not the context been talked about. “Please” on its own does not suggest that one is begging (as we let our ego rule our thoughts) rather it is a more courteous way of asking for a request or a favour to be done. “Please may I come in?” “Please do you know where John is?” Please can I have a glass of water?” Use them more often and see how it goes.

SORRY – In our society, it is much believed that the word “sorry” suggests one is a weakling. No! It is never! It rather shows you feel remorse for a wrong you have done or for the ill that befell someone. “Sorry” actually makes the offended person feel calm, take away the grudges and more while letting you feel a release and lighter heart. Always say you are sorry and mean every alphabet of it.

THANK YOU – I’m yet to see people accept these words as a way and part of their lives. “Thank you” shows an appreciation of a deed you received from someone and an encouragement for the person who did such. We all want praises, isn’t it? Next time that maid of yours does the dishes or the gate man opens the gate for you or the taxi driver drops you off or you colleague assists you with a task or you child wipes your shoe …, just say those power words – “thank  you.” It’s all about gratitude.

Make these three expressions part of your everyday life and see the changes and fulfillment that comes with them. There are simple things in life we forget, these should not be them.
